Vitrectomy is a surgical procedure in which the vitreous gel that fills the inside of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear solution or gas to treat conditions such as retinal detachments, vitreous hemorrhage, macular holes, and epiretinal membranes.
Pneumatic retinopexy is an in-office procedure used to repair retinal detachments in select conditions. In this procedure, a gas bubble is injected into the eye to help re-attach the retina and allow for laser or cryotherapy to seal the retinal break.
This is a common surgical procedure in which a silicone band is placed around the eye to support the eye externally in order to push the wall of the eye against a detached retina. It is commonly performed alone or in combination with vitrectomy surgery to repair a detached retina.
