Dr. Simhaee and Dr. Zahid met during their second look weekend at the University of Michigan Medical School in May 2008. Both being from New York, they became friends quickly and spent five wonderful years in Ann Arbor, MI. Once they both decided to pursue Ophthalmology as a specialty, it was no surprise that they both matched at New York University for their Ophthalmology residency.
Since the early years of residency, they joked about starting their own practice in NYC. After a few years of clinical practice and 15 years of friendship, they decided to create Empire State Retina in Queens and Manhattan. Their goal is to provide excellent, state-of-the-art, and compassionate eye care for the patients in the city that raised them.
